XM3 – space for contemporary art is a non-profit, artist-run exhibition space and cultural platform with a vision to promote new and experimental contemporary art.
XM3 focuses on both local contemporary artists and on engaging in dialogue with the wider art scene beyond its immediate context.
The exhibition space has permanent physical premises in Aalborg Øst, Denmark. XM3 organizes and curates 6–8 exhibitions per year.
XM3 – space for contemporary art is run by the association XM3.
History of the site
The building that houses XM3 was constructed in 1977 by Himmerlands Boligforening. XM3’s exhibition space originally functioned as a local convenience store.
Over the years, the store had several different owners; the last operator ran the shop from 2005 until it closed in 2020.
